CHIPOTLE IN PARIS

By Unknown - 7:13 PM

Bienvenue!

It's Travel Tuesday and I'm coming at ya from Paris, France. But not just anywhere in Paris, THE Chipotle in Paris.

What do you dream of doing in Paris? Perhaps it involves a romantic evening drinking wine in front of the Eiffel Tower, spending hours wandering the halls of the Louvre, or catching the sunset atop Montmartre. Well, for my third visit to Paris, I had one goal: getting my Chipotle fix.

Those of you that have been around these parts for a bit shouldn't be surprised. My Tex-Mex obsession runs deeps and this girl has been salsa and guac deprived for far too long. This Paris trip was short. Karlsruhe is a quick 3 hour high speed train ride from Paris, and when you snag a ticket for 50 Euro round trip (normal prices can run up to 200€) and have some lovely visitors from Stateside there, you just gotta go. So, I arrived at 830 pm Saturday evening and departed 7 am Monday morning. During this short period of time, Chipotle was going to happen (along with a trip to Montmarte, the Dali exhibition, trying my first Macaron, and meeting Ashley of Ashley Abroad)!

Recently I read a Thought Catalog piece on How to Hack Chipotle and I really followed his advice to take full advantage of the opportunity. I went tortilla-less with the burrito bowl, as I alway do, and loaded it up with: rice, black beans, pinto beans, fajita veggies, chicken, medium and hot salsa, sour cream, cheese, and guacamole. Side note: is it just me or does Chipotle have the best guacamole on the planet? We even got some chips to dip into our bowls. It was pretty heavenly. I scarfed mine down in about 3 minutes and 43 seconds.

Truly, it was just as delicious as Chipotle at home. The rice seemed a little darker, the corn relish pretty crappy, and the cheese a bit different, but all-in-all, it was perfection! The prices were also pretty high as you can see in the photos. A burrito (bowl) with guacamole will cost ya 10.50€ (nearly $14).

I realize I am a ridiculous human being eating overpriced Chipotle in a foodie paradise, but sometimes home tastes better than any duck confit out there. My last Chipotle meal before this was... ok it was in December... but still, I NEED Mexican food at least once per month, so I'll still justify it.

What do you dream of eating in Paris?

  1. Hello Alex!

I am so glad that I found your blog through Travel Tuesday and I am happily a new follower! I am a Southern girl, living in England working a as a nanny. DIfferent European experience with a similar flair. They just opened a Chipotle close to where I used to work in London and I was there on opening day. That's how much it meant to me. (Gross?)

Come by and say hi anytime xxx

  5. You know what? I would totally spend $14 bucks on Chipotle just to have a little taste of home if I were abroad. Totally worth it!

  11. baha I love that your goal in going to Paris was to eat at Chipotle. way to be different! but man, is Chipotle good stuff. I feel like I need to take advantage of mine more often, just for your sake. ;)

also, if you're referring to the French colorful cookie-things sold at places like Ladurée, that's macaron with one o. two o macaroons are a little bit different. (sorry to sound like a snob! I've been studying French for too long, I guess).

  13. I would say that I miss the bread, cheese, wine, and sweets in France. Ooo, especially macarons. I have been to France once, and I would like to go back someday!

  14. Haha- this is amazing! I always wind up having McDonald's or Subway while traveling, but Chipotle would be so, so much better. Especially since we don`t have them in Ottawa- I have only tried it once, in NYC.

  15. dying. of. jealousy. you better believe I will be at this chipotle when I'm in Paris this summer. you can take the girl out of Texas, but you can't take the Tex-Mex out of the girl!

  16. I can't believe you went to Paris and ate at Chipotle. I would so do that, because you're exactly right: when you can't have it, it's a whole new ballgame.

Also congrats on spurring me into linking up with you two weeks in a row. Well played. :)

  18. We mut have been separated at birth because everything in that post is oh so right. When I visit home my standing request is an initial pit stop at chipotle on the car ride home from the airport. My last burrito bowl was in December as well and there's not much I wouldn't do to get my hands on another tout de suite!

  19. First you torture me with your trip to the American grocery store on base and now Chipotle?! Why Alex, WHY?!
P.S I guess I'm a little bit happy for you that you got a Tex-Mex fix.

  20. yummmmmm! I used to have Chiptole almost every weekend. Sadly, when I moved to Asia, they didn't have it here. boohoo

  21. Sometimes, dropping money for overpriced things you love is a requirement for keeping your sanity abroad.

  22. Forget traveling to Paris for fashion, I will be now be going for Chipolte! This is the best news that I have heard in a long time!

  26. And you had me at Vegas. BFFs here we come!

  27. Every Wednesday! Those were SO much fun!

    ReplyDelete
  28. We may have gone a little out of our way to indulge as it surprisingly wasn't in a tourist area, but so so so so worth it! I've sadly eaten McDonald's and Subway too many times while traveling and I don't even eat those in the States!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh my gosh if you are ever in the States (or Paris or London or Canada), you have GOT to try it!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Ooooh no, thanks a lot for your correction actually!!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. It was the best news I'd heard in a long time, too! And tasted even better :)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh but I LOVE me some Asian food (well, fake Asian food because I've never had Asian food in Asia). But I imagine it's even harder there to get a MExican fix than in Europe!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I've been spoiling myself :) Guessing Le Petitie Village isn't next in line for France's second Chipotle? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ahh now I want Chikfila!!

I wanted to be one of those people that doesn't like Paris, but it just has so much to offer!

    ReplyDelete
  35. It was the best thing I've eaten in Europe. Ever.

    ReplyDelete
  36. OMG they have Chipotle in Paris?! I was just talking to a friend the other day about how I wished they had one in Germany!! Now I'm thinking about taking a trip to Paris...haha

    ReplyDelete
  37. David told me about Chipotle and that he loves the food there. And I have to admit that I haven't been there yet. Oops.

  38. I had trouble concentrating reading this post.... As soon as I read CHIPOTLE I was tossed into salivating day dreams of burrito heaven. Africa is beautiful and the work is important, but my oh my I would not only pay high prices, I'd part with both pinkie finger's for a Chipotle meal right now!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yep! And one in London! Hopefully coming soon to Germany ;) ALTHOUGH if you are ever in Munich they have a place called Pure Burrito that is similar and appetizing, just don't get their guac! It was seriously the best treat ever

    ReplyDelete
  40. OHMY GOSH PLEASE GOOOO ASAP! They have vegetarian option and the burrito bowls are just so yum, especially if you like guacamole!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Haha oh girl I'd say I know how you feel, but I think I only barely know because I'm sure the options are even more difficult in Africa!

    ReplyDelete
  42. WHAT the WHAT!? I can't believe there's a Chipotle in Paris (and the prices don't seem too outrageous either!) We have great Mexican spots here in Amsterdam but they're so.darn.expensive! This is a perfect discovery as I'm heading to Paris next month and will definitely be gorging on a massive burrito!

    ReplyDelete
  43. In gay Paris & you dine at a Chipotle Restaurant? Don't get me wrong, I have eaten at a Chipotle, and I would describe the experience as dining at up-scale, Tex-Mex salad bar. I suppose being abroad one can really come to miss guacamole, pico de gallo and salsa?

Are avocados, jalapenos and salsa unavailable in Germany?

Anyway, I recall a particularly long business trip to W. Africa, before you were born. Upon arriving back in the U.S. I had to have a triple cheeseburger from a joint in your hometown named 'Rosnovsky's', which is not longer in business. Had the greasiest, most delicious, grill top fried, hamburgers ever.

Strange the things one misses when abroad. Glad you got your fix on while in Paris, even if I would have done otherwise.

Happy for, and proud of, you.

    Love always,

    Daddio

  44. We have jalapenos but they're never fresh and the avocados are always terrible and tough even when they're good. But Chipotle was the perfect fix - closest thing to Tex-Mex you can get while in Europe because other establishments think a taco is Chili in a tortilla wrap.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Hahaha it was SO worth the stop. We even have 2 "Mexican" restaurants here in Karlsruhe and the drinks are decent but the food is such a joke, yet they try and charge 20 Euro for fajitas. There's also a Chipotle in London now too :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. umm, SERIOUSLY the best guacamole in the world. I don't know how they do it!?

    ReplyDelete
  47. I always see copy cat recipes online and while they're good, it's still not the same!

    ReplyDelete
  48. NOOOOO WAY. chipotle is in my least favorite city in the world?!? i may have found a reason to go back and visit. i hear its coming to frankfurt soon. perhaps ill make a summer trip there. how pathetic am i??

jealous you go to meet ashley!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Ummm I will totally meet you for a Chipotle date in Frankfurt - I had not heard this wonderful news. Chipotle is pretty much the only reason I went back to Paris - thus the only blog post from my trip :)
